King Henry VIII ruled from 1509 to his death in 1547. He supported the reformation, which saw the dissolution of all of the monasteries and nunneries, and kept all of their wealth, whilst giving away their land and monasteries to his friends for fine houses. He is known for having had 6 wives, divorcing or beheading them as he pleased! (You may have heard the rhyme
"Divorced, beheaded died:
Divorced, beheaded, survived"
as a way of remembering the order of their fates.)
